Last week. Flagamuffin is off to Italy for a few months, so I'll be filling in until he gets back.
Pharmakon - Abandon. Power electronics. I didn't have high hopes for this one, because of the band name alluding to a Derrida essay and because of the approval it's been getting from indie music blogs, but I was pleasantly surprised.
loveliescrushing - Ghost Colored Halo. Somewhere between ambient and shoegaze, where nearly every band on Projekt lives. It's loveliescrushing, Hubski, and if you like that sort of thing this is the sort of thing you like.
Mindless Self Indulgence - How I Learned to Stop Giving a Shit and Love Mindless Self Indulgence. Industrial rock. They might be getting a bit old to be sticking to this shtick, but they do have it down pat. I almost feel like I'm 14 and sneaking a smoke next to the kiln in art class again.
Distorted Memory - Lose Control. EBM. He just released it, and I've only listened to it a couple of times, so I don't really have anything to say about it, other than that I'm looking forward to the album now.
Light Vision - Electronic Response. One of those *waves. Great late-night driving music.
I've been listening to a lot of WU LYF this week. It's a shame that their lead singer seems to have been a total diva and left the band. Oh well, the other members have since formed a new band, Los Porcos. That's about it this week, I've also been listening to a lot of Cottage Jefferson, but I've already talked about them a lot.
Bit late to the Alt-J party, but I'm so happy to be here. Haven't had an album on rotate like this for a while. Do yourself a favor; don't listen to one song, try the whole album instead. Also. New Vampire Weekend is good. New Phoenix is good.
I've absorbed Alt J via osmosis from my fiancee. She loves that group and listens to them a lot. They got a really unique and good thing going.
Mother Mother - Dread in my Heart. Been listening to all of Mother Mother's newest album The Sticks and have fallen in love with this song along with Love It Dissipates.
I love the jovial style of singing alongside the swearwords thrown in it's jarring but in a good way, thanks for sharing.
I just spent a few days at home in Michigan. While there, a couple of old friends stopped by my parents house and we had a bonfire and talked about music. At the end of the evening we all went out to my friends car and played each other demos of songs we've been working on. While I can't share any links to what they played for me, I can "share" that I was extremely impressed and very happy to hear that two of my oldest friends are really just at the beginning of their songwriting experiences. I expect a lot from jonaswildman and hopefully he can share his songs here on Hubski as he completes them. As for what I listened to this week, mostly live classical guitar playing in Mexico. It was great. I've also been diving in deeper to Hayden's new album that sounds_sound introduced me to. The song from it titled "Almost Everything" is an awesome summary of the point in my life that I'm at regarding music. -Jonas, check out that song in particularly.
Demos in the car bring back good memories. Was a Monger in the mix?
Unfortunately, no. Monger was at a baseball game and couldn't make it. There was an azzopardi in the mix though.
Going to try to buy/ find this, this week. Liked the song a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it. I downloaded it and if I see the vinyl, Ill buy it too. I've really enjoyed it. Anything new that you've been in to?
Old but one of my favorite albums from the past few years: Yeasayer- All Hour Cymbals http://www.last.fm/music/Yeasayer/_/Sunrise. (Studio version, I really like the wholly album, check out 2080 as well) New Grizzly Bear (a few of the songs). http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9Kop5ylg0kc The new Cold War Kids (a few of the songs again) http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ivrr-s-17f0
That Grizzly Bear performance is amazing. The sound/mix is really fantastic, it was flawless. I just bought their album Shields, I look forward to listening to it. Thanks.
I will remember that night of sharing music for a long time, so fun. Cathy loved As seen on TV, as well as I, and Ian's song was moody, catchy and really well put together. I'm really excited to share 2 of the songs from the car, with vocals ( their done, just need to be placed in the song properly) maybe this week. Well......I'm off to check out "Almost Everything".
William Bonney - Dope Castle and Vampire Weekend - Diane Young. VW's new album will likely be ending up on a lot of best of lists come years end, I recommend giving it a listen.
I've been listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs latest album Mosquito. It's pretty good, I guess. Mosquito I recently came across Waylon Thornton and the Heavy Hands. I'm thinking about getting an album or two from their bandcamp page, but honestly it seems they're really locked into their sound, no matter which album I've listened to tracks from. Here's one called Gator Foot. Also, here is a link to their bandcamp page to one of the albums I'm favoring at the moment. I'm not a big fan of Baby Jane voices, which I feel like Miss Li slips into a bit too often, but I like her anyway. I re-listened to her album Beats & Bruises a bit this week. I can't get you off of my mind.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FnCKOYcnzI - Liquid Sovereignty, Eyedea...amazing how repetitive the rhyme is, but it's still so good. Small Faces, Blind Faith, Scarface, The Black Keys' Blakroc album (favorite songs on there are probably Done Did It and Hoochie Coo) Addison Groove Project has a good song, My Apartment Galactic: Hey Na Na and Heart of Steel Radioactive by Imagine Dragons begins like Indie, which I normally don't like, but it gets really awesome around the thirty mark
Boy - Railway. Relaxed and quite accessible for any music fan i would imagine.
