They can be a bit finnicky. I used to rave about the B&N Nook, but then mine died on me unaccountably over Christmas. Why did you decide to ditch the Kindle?
I just came to the conclusion that I much prefer reading a paperback or hardcover. Also, I really don't want my library trapped inside some sort of proprietary device that will be outdated in just a short time. I want to be able to look over my books thirty years from now, pull one out for a reread, or be able to give one to a friend. Just the other day I bought Dave Egger's A Hologram For the King at a new bookstore that opened in town. The book is gorgeous. It's got a great texture, and the paper is quality. The inside covers and the leaf pages are a velvety blue textured paper. I saw it and was like: Fuck yeah, I deserve this! :) I gave the Kindle a shot. I might use it for travel sometimes, but maybe not.
That is a damn beautiful book. We all deserve more books made with some care and artistry. I'm a massive fan of The Neverending Story, which the author never wanted published in paperback because the physical book is supposed to be the same as the embossed hardcover described in the text. It's also supposed to be printed with red and green ink, and with beautiful color illustrations. Most English editions just strip it down to black and white, which is criminal.
