And that's exactly what the article talks about. The existing ISPs have a head-in-the-sand approach toward improving services. They saw Google's approach and simply denied that customers don't want better service.

Personally, I like my rates being increased arbitrarily every six months for no better service than I was receiving with absolutely no recourse. I'm not sure that it even could be improved upon, as it's already damn near perfect. Not a month goes by where I don't think, "Gee, I love Comcast's cable speed, not to mention their 5 star customer service, but you know what would be really great is if instead of $60/mo I could pay $75. Sigh, maybe one day."

I know, it's just so stupid. It's the equivalent of being in charge of the Santa Fe Railroad in 1870 and deciding that people won't want to go west.

Very true. My only guess is that they let Google do the hard work then sue to allow them to use the fiber network as well.
