For those who don't know, I'm the bassist.
Nice work B_C. She definitely has a nice voice, very enjoyable to listen to. Congrats on the demo!
I don't hear too much contemporary scatting these days. It's done well. There's a brightness to the vocal that I really like as well. I'm curious, do you guys plan to stick to a traditional sound? I don't know if you've listened to Lake Street Dive but they started out as students at NEC and while they still use traditional elements in some of their songs, they also have a very contemporary sound. Good work.
Yeah, Alyssa has some great pipes. I think we do plan to stick to the traditional sound. Our thing is to appeal to the masses while still sticking to jazz roots. I do enjoy playing and listening to contemporary jazz though. I'll check them out. Thank you very much for your feedback.
Very nice, how was this recorded? ever plan on doing live recordings?
This was recorded live in a friends basement. With jazz it's essentially impossible to record individual takes. Do you live as in at a gig?
yeah, sorry. i think with jazz the best recordings are the ones from gigs. the energy of an audience really adds to the atmosphere of the record. not that this is bad by any means, i love it. it just makes me wish i could see you guys live :)
I understand. Haha thanks! Are you ever in the Chicago area?
nah, i've only been once for lollapalooza in 06. i love the city, but im about a 17 hour drive away.
Oof, that's a long drive. One day if you're visiting then you could check us out.
I really enjoyed this, listened at work a couple days ago and didn't comment at the time, but "Golden Gaze" is especially great. Where/how do you guys record? Very nice sounds out of all players. On a related note: I received an email today from Suzette's Creperie in Wheaton (emphasis on the "Wh") and it would appear that they're booking live jazz acts. You should look into this!
Golden Gaze was written by Alyssa actually. We recorded at a friend's house a few blocks away from Aurora University, he had a nice set up. Oh, I'll definitely look into that! Thanks man.
Also, you should check us out at the House Pub in St Charles on the 19th.
I'm sure Alyssa would take that as a huge compliment, I'll pass it along.
