As somebody who is in a new area for a few months of work, with no friends or family, and living by himself, I needed this read. I'm been trying to impress this upon people (namely my girlfriend) for the month that I've been here (that long already?), but it's a very hard point to get across to people who have never been in this position.Loneliness is accretive, extending and perpetuating itself. Once it becomes impacted, it isn’t easy to dislodge.
I think this is true for more things than people realize. I think a lot of people tend to assume that because communications technology has improved, that most people are pretty good at not only communicating, but understanding other people and even empathizing with them. It's hard to say whether or not this is true if we're comparing different eras, but if it is true, then why are so many of the most common human problems couched in the barrier of communication and understanding?
