Quick plug for one of the most soulful "supergroups" (hate that phrase) in existence. Every single tag on allmusic is wrong, by the way, MoF is straight up indie folk.

I saw their (supposedly) last show together ever, and it was beautiful. They finished with this as the sun set behind the stage. The spotlights came on, and the haunting waver of Jim James put us in a trance for eight minutes.

The author of that all music guide description of Monsters of Folk is a good friend of mine. Next time I see him I'll mention your displeasure with the description.

Can you be more specific in where you find fault?

Really? Cool/odd. It's not the description! I like the description (although there are some cool details about the album recording sessions that could be fit in somewhere to make things more interesting, maybe? I don't know allmusic's rules or anything). It's just the tags -- genre: pop/rock, styles: alt indie, adult alt, indie rock aren't extremely accurate. I would say styles: alt folk/just folk. And there's got to be a more accurate genre (unless they have to choose from blues, country, jazz, etc.).

No clue if those are even written by the same person, and it doesn't matter anyway. Did he choose the "editor's rating" too? This is pretty cool.

Really. Definitely odd. I showed my wife the comment and then said, "guess who wrote the AMG review?". She laughed, knowing the answer. He's a fantastic writer and right up there as one of my favorite songwriters and not just because I know him. Check out his song Summer Bonfire with his band Great Lakes Myth Society.

I don't know AMG's rules either but I do know that they essentially have the person writing the bio or review of an album write two. One of the reviews is just informative and the other is more opinionated. Beyond that, I have no clue how it works.

Jamie is easily one of the brightest people I know and has introduced me to a ton of music over the years as well as movies/tv/books. In fact, he is who introduced me to M. Ward.

You'd like him.

Check out more of the Great Lakes Myth Society, they are fantastic. Also, if you get a moment, his brother is also a very good friend. I've known him since I was in kindergarten and we played in some of our first bands together in middle school. Playing Ziggy Stardust at the age of 12. His name is Timothy Monger and he also plays in GLMS. Check out his Solo Albums -Check out "the Classics". Or, check out When I'm a Happy Drunk

Two very talented brothers. Too much talent for one family. -Dicks :-)

Way cool. I like Summer Bonfire and Heydays quite a bit (I also dig the layout of that website!).

I listened to a track called 'The New Britton Sound' also. So there's apparently a massive grassroots indie folk/rock movement in Michigan that I've never known about. hubski has taught me so many things.
