I don't agree with your last point and the quote that b_b provided, good music should be able to make you feel anything, pain included. It could be from empathy from the songwriters experience or what the song is about, to striking a chord within a persons own life.

Music does not necessarily take a person away from those things, it depends on what you are listening to. I know when I've been in state of depression, listening to music like this or especially this has not helped. Music can take you anywhere, even to the places you don't want to be.

Well, then maybe yo ushiuldnt listen to that music when you're upset. I never said all kinds of music helped. And yeah, that's Bob marley.

It's Bob Marley, from "Trenchtown Rock". Seemed relevant. I don't think he meant it literally. I think he meant that one can lose oneself within music, and that it's a universal healer.

Ah, can't say I've ever listened to much Bob Marley or Reggae in general. Your interpretation makes sense, looks like I'm going to have to go listen to that song now!
