I don't care much for 'image consciousness', especially when it pertains to clothing and accessories. There's nothing wrong with dressing in a way that makes you comfortable, or happy with the way you look, but when it comes to bearing designer brands that signal conspicous consumption, I see it as insecurity and lack of character.
This reminded me of a great piece on Robert Crumb talking about advertising on clothes, but I can't find it atm.
When it comes to the advertising I see on the web, I'd be curious to know what it is valued at. For example, I wonder what the price tag is for all the advertising that I have seen on the web for an entire year. If it was below $100, I'd probably pay as much not to see it.
