I think I'd superglue one to my fingernail, instead of getting it implanted. I heard on the radio that they are considering banning the really powerful tiny magnets, due to kids swallowing them (particularly nasty, if they swallow one, then another later).

Yes, I think this is one of those cases where the aesthetic desire outstrips the need or practicality. In some sense this is sensory enhancement, but in another sense it is just embedding a magnet in your finger. If there were useful applications for the implant it would be less 'art project' and more applied technology. Also, MRIs are useful.
