I agree it does bear a strong resemblance to the Amish stance toward tech, but I would say the Amish are already more extreme than what he describes. Also, I wonder to what degree isolating technologies actually replace face-to-face communication rather than supplement it. That is, without community based tech would some people have even less interaction?
