I burned out on Mogwai very quickly for the same reason as many other bands that do the quiet-LOUD-quiet-LOUD dynamics thing... because it loses its dynamism after you hear three or four tunes. Not to say I wasn't a fan - I was - and seeing them live ranks in one of my Top Something of Somethings, but they'd have definitely kept my interest if they just managed to do more*. * Realize that a True Fan will disagree and say "but they introduced x on y album and definitely mellowed out / beefed up on album w" to which I'd respond by snoring. I get it. And they did influence quite a bit of what's come after them, but Low kinda grabbed the mantle with their first album that I've been aware of or cared for in at least a decade.
