Small class sizes, and engaged parents and teachers. -That's what I want for my kid. I remember loving indoor recess in elementary school though. We had a class computer, and we'd play pong and lemonade stand. My dad, who was a teacher, would also check out the school's Apple IIE for the weekend. It was definitely a beneficial experience.

I'd like my kid to write at least one computer program in his/her life. It's a unique effort.

IMO a successful education creates an intellectually curious person with the ability and desire to figure things out. Everything else is just details.

Agreed. Simply put: There's more than one way to skin a cat. All these people get so wrapped up in ideology, just like in politics and religion. Let's look a the facts. There are a lot of smart people working today who were taught in the 70's, 80's and 90's with that style of curriculum, and they brought us the tech revolution; there are a lot of people from the WWII and early Baby Boomers who were taught with strict corporal punishment who sent us to the Moon; and there were people who were educated in religious institutions who were responsible for the Renaissance and Enlightenment. All this tells us is that there are always going to be people who succeed and people who don't. Ideology be damned.
