Life imprisonment without parole? Sounds like a worse punishment than execution...

Apparently Stroman didn't feel that way--I heard this story on NPR first, and Stroman's attorney said that when he told his client the Bhuiyan was trying to save his life, Stroman broke down in tears and said "That's the first kind thing anyone has ever done for me."
I figure that's probably true for most people, but it's also the kind of value judgment you can't make until you're facing one or the other...

I would rather spend my life in prison than die. You can still learn, create, communicate... exist. I guess it depends on what you think happens after death as well as what you think happens in prison. It mentions that he is a father, it would seem to me that any chance of an interaction between me and my child would make me desire to keep alive. -But like you said, it really is a value judgement and there are a LOT of factors at play that would be specific to each individual.
