I studiously ignore most sports, football in particular, but I watch the superbowl, have every year since 1988 even when it meant unplugging the TV from the living room and dragging it into the weird library closet thing at my parents' house. As it is the only time of the year I see commercials, popular music or general cultural references, it's always a pleasantly alienating experience, like being Valentine Michael Smith walking the streets of New York. This year I shall invite two other couples that studiously ignore sports and we shall feel alienated together. I find it's a great time to stock up on Superbowl party staples - baked brie, cava, crostini, prosciutto & grapes. You know, red-blooded Heartland food.
As long as you have a good time, I'm happy for you! It's a good excuse to get together with friends and have a nice time, no matter how much you like sports. Maybe for this years party I'll have to try some exotic cheeses in your honor
