An average acre of land in Africa currently produces only about a sixth as much grain as an acre in Illinois.
That doesn't seem surprising when they are taking the average of a continent the size of Africa and comparing to Illinois. How does it compare to the US overall? Are there places in Africa on par with production of Illinois? My guess is that we are going to move more towards engineered foods and synthetic meat. I think that's where supply and demand will push us. It's pretty wasteful to think that we grow corn to feed a cow, grow the cow, then just eat its muscles. That kind of meat is going to get more and more expensive as cheaper alternatives are made available.
