Very intriguing. India and Pakistan aren't known for the best relationship. What I am trying to figure though, is if this ritual increases tension by its nature or if practicing a tradition together decreases tension and brings the people closer.
This was the only thing I could think of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqhlQfXUk7w I'm so sorry.
I knew that this video was reminiscent of something but couldn't put my finger on it. Nice work.
That's a good question, I can't tell by watching the video whether it helps ease tension or amplifies it. The fact that there is a huge applause at the end when the two nations shake hands, makes me think that it must be a good thing. However all of the strutting, stomping and bravado seem very competitive. I would say that there is enough fuel in that tension, that I wouldn't dare light a match. Great video though, thanks.
It's all fun and games until someone starts shooting. It does seem to be in good fun and incredibly silly. Things like this, along with sporting events etc, when done right, can be really great ways to bring 2 rival nations together.
Maybe we should introduce them to the wonders of American Football and have them use those as a proxy for any disputes they might have. In the event of a tie* have both teams play a full game of Rugby. No pads allowed. I'm sure that'll fix any problems they might have. *: Yes it is possible to tie. Came as a shock to me as well. :( my poor Niners...
