- These details are fresh, beyond fresh, more than memories, as if someone took a sharp kitchen knife and carved them into my brain, because in that simple moment, the plane lurched and fell—how many hundreds of feet I don’t know—fell out of the clouds and toward the ground. The cabin filled with smoke. The plane leveled again, and it struck me that no one made a sound. We sat in wild-eyed fear. My hands gripped my purse. The captain’s voice filled the plane. He sounded afraid.
Nice little moment there and a great read! Thank you.Red dark cherry lipstick smeared along my top teeth, in a Rorschach blotch of wonder.
Thank you so kindly for reading my little (true) story. I remember it as if it were yesterday, the tumble of the plane, the old man's soapy smell. Funny how these moments are sharp, refined, forged in time and relief.
Have you ever seen the movie Fearless with Jeff Bridges? I thought of it after reading your piece. It's a wonderful film.
Never heard of it! But I shall watch it this weekend, if it's on Netflix! Yay! I need a good flick.
Nice work littlebirdie, I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading more of your work. You and other writers, musicians, artists and creatives should know that it's encouraged to share your own work on Hubski. I hope you don't mind me posting this.
Thank you so kindly for sharing my words and near-crash experience with Hubski! How exciting! I didn't realize we could share our own stuff - a lot of other sites frown on that. I will make sure I am judicious in what I share so as not to be "one of those" kinds of people, ha ha!
Also, if I don't like what someone posts, I can always click "ignore" and I'll not see their submissions. Also, also I have taken to tagging my original content with "tng": #tngpodcast, #tng this way people can ignore those tags and still follow me. I do it as a courtesy, knowing that not all people will be interested in the content I create. Hope this helps, I look forward to more of your original work.I didn't realize we could share our own stuff - a lot of other sites frown on that.
The way I see it, if someone is sharing original content, discussing the content and participating in the site, that's ideal. We should celebrate our creations and those that create them. Spamming is a totally different animal and isn't tolerated but by all means, share your work. I think it's crazy that other sites don't encourage this.
That all makes wonderful sense. I'm enjoying this site so much, I can't remember another site I've enjoyed more. I love the friendships and conversations that have been developing, and can see how sharing some of our most personal moments can bring about new creativity, excitement, and change. I'm still figuring out the tags - which has changed I see, so I'm re-confused, but I will sort it out. I just don't want to miss out on anything cool!
Nicely written account. Some people have the ability to remain calm in the most trying of situations. It makes me wonder about the old man's life experiences. What has he gone through that tested him so greatly that a potential plane crash doesn't unnerve him?
He was as calm and certain as sunset. I wish I found out his name.
