Just dipping my toe in and I am really enjoying this site, seems like a lot of thought an work have gone into crafting it. I am surprised that it predicts that we won't have genetically engineered babies till 2053, I figure 2030 at the latest.

Yeah, after a light perusal, it seems this is a bit more conservative than some other futurist predictions that I have come across. It's much more detailed too.

I found mouse cryopreservation in 2025-35, with humans coming several years after. I often forget about cryopreservation when it comes to biological immortality. At my work, I am freezing and thawing mammalian cells all the time. It's mundane, yet mind-blowing. To do it in the lab we first put the cells in DMSO, which is hydrophobic, then drop them to -80C overnight. They can then be transferred to liquid nitrogen (-196C) the next day. I imagine that the cells expand as the water inside crystalizes. I wonder if you could cool under a magnetic field that created amorphorous ice rather than crystal ice. I've got to look into that.
