I've been to Art Basel. This guy is doing it wrong. You get your friends, hang out, and cruise from gallery to gallery drinking free top shelf liquor all night, talking, laughing about, and really just seeing the art. Meet people. Talk to them. Then when you've got a good buzz going and you've seen enough, go get some food, go to a club, or go home if you're old or your babysitter has work in the morning. The most storied, famous modern art pieces hanging in the grandest museums are really unapproachable if you don't know much about art and art history. Trying to decode the 'meaning' of everything you see at Art Basel is a fool's errand. Just have fun and look for pieces that you have an instant, honest, positive reaction to while you're doing that. If you find any, you can drill down more and talk to the artist and see if its something you've connected with enough to want on your wall and if so, can you afford it. Guy is trying way too hard.
agreed in spirit to search for meaning in post-duchamp art is a fools errand. But the art world does throw some good parties.
