This is the perfect album to work to--one of my favorites. It probably isn't new to most of you, but do yourself a favor and give it another listen if you haven't done so in a while.
I saw Aphex Twin play in a church in Detroit back in 97. Amazing show. He literally laid right on the floor of the stage, on his belly, with only a laptop and a mixer in front of him. Like a kid in their living room with crayons and a coloring book. Half way through the concert, there came out three life-size neon teddy bears just like the ones you see in his videos. Each one had a picture of his face sewn onto their big wobbly heads. They started wrestling and miming sex acts. Meanwhile, RDJ is on the floor, in the middle all that craziness, twiddling knobs.
Volume II is best to work to, I think, because the sound is less intrusive. But then, "less intrusive" doesn't mean a whole lot, when we're talking about Aphex Twin. Here are some of my favourite AT tracks:
Some of my favorites, too: Fenix Funk 5 from an album most people haven't gone through
Nice. The song that has stuck with me the most is Alberto Balsalm. His ability to humanize electronic sounds is really on show here.
Oh shit! My friend remixed this song (First one), thank you for finally sourcing the original track for me!
