This is tangential, but the Hellenistic Greeks already understood that the planets orbit around the sun, and this knowledge was forgotten by the time of Ptolemy (source: Lucio Russo - The Forgotten Revolution). I often think of this quote by David Fremlin: "Indeed I have very little confidence in anything I have ever read concerning the history of ideas."
