And I mean that in the best way possible.
For the 2021 season, the team I paid the most attention to was The Milwaukee Brewers and Daniel Vogelbach was a consistent presence at the plate. I always loved to watch his at bats. The dude always came to the plate alert, eager, ready, and he had amazing plate discipline too. He knew what he was able to hit, would take swings at those pitches, and ignore almost everything else.
He had a big moment on September Fifth, 2021, when The Brewers were in the bottom of the ninth, trailing The Cardinals 5-2. With the bases loaded, they call in Vogelbach to pinch hit, and he hits a walk off grand slam. The crowd went crazy. The internet went crazy. It was an awesome, awesome, AWESOME moment from last year.
I was kind of sad to see that he chose to become a free agent at the end of the season last year, because I like The Brewers and I like Vogelbach and I just wanted him to stay a Brewer. I was pretty happy though that The Pirates picked him up though, because I watch a lot of NL Central games on account of The Brewers being in the NL Central division, so he wasn’t going too far and I’d get to see him.
I remember two things distinctly about him becoming a Pirate. Somewhere, someone on the internet asked “Is Vogelbach any good? Will he be a good fit for The Pirates?” Brewer fan after Brewer fan came into the thread saying “He’s awesome. You’ll love him.” It warmed my heart. The Pirates got good use out of him too, often making him the lead off hitter. But eventually, all good things come to an end. In July of 2022, he got traded to The Mets and that’s kind of the last I saw of him, cause I don’t really pay attention to The Mets. From what I understand though, he is doing well for them.
That said, I actually really hope he winds up on another team for the 2023 season. Not cause I have anything against The Mets, per se, but I like Vogelbach so much, I want him to keep moving around, so more and more people get to see how awesome he is. He seems like a really cool guy and he’s a solid player. It’d be nice for him to get more recognition and I want that for him. Also, I just want other people to take the same joy I did in watching his at bats. They’re that good.
