SCOTUS got hacked by the GOP, so it functions like their base is the country. Roe vs Wade benefited the GOP as a battle, but fucks them as a victory.
Unclear. It'll help mobilize some of the GOP voting base, and it may be too late in the year for the coming repeal to make much of a real-life impact on democrats by this fall, especially outside of the 26 or however many mostly-safely-red states where the repeal may go into effect almost immediately. If the GOP is unworried how this will affect their election odds, it might reflect an increase in their estimation of how much more of the election process they've captured, and plan to capture. Or, it's a reflection of right wing media's success in still mainlining Trump while successfully sabotaging many Biden policy attempts. Or both. And more. --- edit: I'm sorry to make another State of the Media thread, but this is where Fox is at (currently the #3 feature spot on the foxnews.com homepage under their banner announcement of the Roe-Wade overturn news). If you combine the headline and the only three paragraphs related to it... ... "‘The extreme left is taking over’ WHERE. In Texas, Republicans passed a law allowing rapists to sue their victims for getting an abortion," Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter. ... The Texas Heartbeat Act, also known as Senate Bill 8, was originally signed into law in May 2021 and took effect in September. The law empowers private citizens to sue anyone suspected of aiding or abetting an abortion after fetal cardiac activity is detected, usually after six weeks of pregnancy. ... Contrary to Ocasio-Cortez's tweet, however, women who obtain abortions after fetal cardiac activity has been detected are specifically exempted from the law. This is no op ed, this is Fox's online political news section, currently unable and/or not required to string together an argument supporting its own headlines. Seriously, there is nothing else in the article connecting rapists being allowed to sue their own victims to the fetal cardiac activity legal exemption statute of the abortion ban. (and you're not gonna believe it, but) None of the popular comments beneath the article seem to have addressed this. Last line, no context, suckerpunch: Easy peasy, waves wand Fetus-Deleteus! Re-Elect Greg! HE DID ITfucks them as a victory
AOC botches facts in viral tweet attacking Texas abortion law
Since taking effect, abortions have plummeted in Texas, one of several states dominated by conservatives that have passed similar restrictions on abortions.
