So I recently spent a little bit of time in Ukraine working with a medical NGO. I was particularly struck by the messaging around the city-Lviv is a city fully preparing to be invaded. Here are a couple of those billboards and signs with rough translations.
We are on our land, you will be in it
I am not your darling
He who comes by the sword, dies by the sword.
And we told you: not on… but in Ukraine
Small military operation
Our dream has not been destroyed! And a new plane we will build!
We will not let anyone rule in our native land
Russian warship, go f*ck yourself
Russian soldiers, stop! Do not end life for Putin. Return home with a clear conscious.
Russia destroyed our old dream, and now we will build a new one
Russian army, go fuck yourselves
This was handed to me at some point. The thanks blur together. Rough translation: The blood of cossacks is now in you. Glory to the heroes!

For all I can tell, it's less puns but rather nice touches - 'small military operation' and the signs directed at Russians are in Russian, the others are in Ukrainian. necroptosis' translations are very good.
Yup, good translations confirmed. It's less puns, that cultural context people could be missing - like the whole "in" and "on" Ukraine semantic difference, where people still say "on" Ukraine in Russian (Like when people say "the Ukraine" in english) - like it was grammatically correct during the soviet union. Since it became an independent country, it's an offensive way to refer to the country that denies it's sovereignty
Thank you. I speak a decent amount of Russian and I had a Ukrainian friend check my other translations. One small other linguistic fun fact- иди на хуй, the Russian phrase for "go fuck yourself" is more or less directly translated to "go sit on a dick".
You're right, but in this case you can either split hair ("how exactly do I go fuck myself?") or accept the idiomatic route. Speaking as a Pole, English to Slavics is all but easy to do directly and vice versa.иди на хуй, the Russian phrase for "go fuck yourself" is more or less directly translated to "go sit on a dick".
