This is good news. The freak show religious fundamentalists may not have as much sway as so many folks believe.
A number of years ago I saw some preliminary research that broke down the incidence of multicultural marriages, LGBTQ long term relationships and the prevalence of online dating. The research made the point that as soon as there was an option to find your partner somewhere other than "friends of friends" "bars" or "church", an unprecedented number of people ended up marrying out of their own ethnicity and well outside the comfort level of their traditional cultural composition. Robert Putnam made the point 20 years ago in Bowling Alone that an erosion of traditional social support structures was leading to alienation and despondency among traditional family-oriented households. Social Media and online dating have likely exacerbated the situation. It's led me to wonder how much of the fundamentalist outlook is a bunker mentality - used to be you knew who to hate, now Susie has pink hair and calls herself "non-binary."
