Gratitude = focus on the good things going = less time in a brain’s fight or flight mode. Generally a healthy form of living. Thanks for the posting. I’m grateful this post reminded me of a “shut the brain down and get to sleep” strategy I’d picked up from a family friend in the past couple of years. I may need it in the upcoming month. When I’d had trouble finding sleep, “ My friend recommended to start at the top of the alphabet and recite in your head something you’re grateful for starting with A and on down the alphabet. Works wonders. I think I might make it to J or K before drifting off. Worries now postponed for the waking world.
I'm grateful for your comment @katakowsj. I ran across that exercise somewhere years ago, but had completely forgotten about it. Few of the usual relaxation gimmicks work on my ruminant mind, and I've just about tried them all — but I have used this one twice already, and haven't made it to Z yet.
