- Participants in both groups slept more and walked less after they got sick, and their resting heart rates rose. But these changes were more pronounced in people with Covid-19. “There was a much larger change in resting heart rate for individuals who had Covid compared to other viral infections,” said Jennifer Radin, an epidemiologist at Scripps who leads the DETECT trial. “We also have a much more drastic change in steps and sleep.”
The scientists also found that about nine days after participants with Covid first began reporting symptoms, their heart rates dropped. After this dip, which was not observed in those with other illnesses, their heart rates rose again and remained elevated for months. It took 79 days, on average, for their resting heart rates to return to normal, compared with just four days for those in the non-Covid group.
as an aside, after seeing this, I tried to open Samsung Health on my phone (I have a samsung smartwatch) and learned that I'd been signed out. To sign in again I have to provide my phone number, which Samsung will use to "help my friends find me". I used to be pro-fitness tracker because I was interested in gathering my own heartrate data but I've realized I made exactly one project with it in 3 years and the only reason that I've been wearing it now outside of running/exercise is because until I can afford that sweet sweet Grand Seiko GMT it's my only watch that can display both local and UTC... (and even so, my Alpinist's rotating bezel can be used for that...)
I wore a Huawei Watch 2 for ...reasons that dissipated quickly and what I discovered is that your average app developer has fuckall knowledge of design or UX. Apple's greatest trick was making you pay $500 for a Timex by making your phone so big you didn't want to take it out of your purse.
Interesting, I am observing something similar. The clinic here has a program for people with covid thagasks them to track their symptoms 3 times a day. They send you a thermometer and a heart rate and blood oxygen device. While sick, my heart rate was always between 70 and 80. When the symptoms became weaker, I suddenly dropped back to 55-60. I think I am going to continue measuring
