- Excerpted from Landslide: The Final Days of the Trump Presidency, by Michael Wolff (Henry Holt and Co.; July 27, 2021).
Look, I know Michael Wolff doesn't want to burn his sources, but come the fuck on. This entire excerpt (probably the whole book) in a nutshell is: "Oopsiedaisy, we fomented insurrection???". I'm sure the Trump camp is using this book and the public reaction to it as a way to refine any future legal defense(s), should the need arise.
"Us (hapless) aides, family members, and Congressional leaders just didn't want to make p-p-p-p-poor Mr. President upset by t-t-telling him he lost the election."
Luckily, since January 6th, Trump and his high-level supporters have realized how dangerous the Big Lie is and have begun telling hard truths, despite how much it might hurt them politically and/or financially. OH WAIT.
If your name appears in this excerpt: Please go fuck yourself with every single object within a 10 mile radius until you are naught but a gaping tunnel of decomposing shit.
Apparently it's not just Wolff, it's any idiot taking Trump's enablers and defenders at their word, and then amplifying Trumpist propaganda for a fucking book deal. I'm never going to directly link to anything else from any of the new books, but at least one writer on the same site hosting the Jan. 6 story excerpt had the same reaction I did when reading the "inside story" of election night. The "story" is: "Sooooo, it's super late on Nov. 3, and Rudy's super drunk, and Rudy tells Trump to say he won the election while Trump's still ahead, and so Trump was like 'OK, I guess'. Isn't Rudy crazy??!" Well, Rudy's for sure crazy, but: Another "OoOopSiEeeeee, who could have knowned Trump would do that, He didn't meaned to" moment, as told by sources deep down in Trump world, who have NEVER been known to lie. pssssst. Hey I think that if you claim to have only accidentally incited an insurrection attempt by blatantly lying, but then you kept telling the same lies again, six months later? And you also continually praised like hundreds of people on trial for the crimes you are alleged to have possibly incited? I dunno, that could be bad for you?? He's more or less daring DoJ to prosecute him by helping them build a case against himself. If he's alive, he'll run in 2024, even if he's in prison or been broken out of prison and is in hiding or fled the country. If he loses, he'll probably try to stoke another Jan. 6, but I think that tactic only almost-works once. If he wins, buhbye U.S. democracy, 100%. Quite the bifurcation. Sorry. I wish I didn't feel the need to make this hubski installment, but I can't stop staring in shock at the ongoing radicalization of the republican party by a man for whom it seems a tossup between mental illness or evil incarnate. It feels absolutely defeating to me that the man's supporters would say similar things about anyone he points them at, even if he praised the target only yesterday. am_Unitoinz' bAdtimes e-hubski dairy, post #9(?)/?
I wasn't completely decided until today. Trump only wants to publish a book for the revenue, then (no surprise). Clearly, this is the best possible "spin"/outright lies of the day's events. Some of it went too far, I think. "Let me put our great first lady on speakerphone". Yeah right, Trump really said that, and Melania really wanted to express her feelings of soft disdain for the insurrectionists to one of Trump's aides. After hanging up, the First Family went to sixteen orphanages and gave every child four PS5's and two Nintendos.
Barr did make a statement on December 1st that DoJ had found no evidence of widespread election fraud, apparently at McConnell's private request, but his mischaracterization of the Mueller report and other offenses puts him forever in the red on my ledger. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful he helped(?) democracy hang on by a thread, but he's basically a self-professed autocracy enabler with his interpretations of sweeping executive authority. One of the most radical Catholics this side of a Dan Brown novel.
