I don’t think Carville is posturing, or really feels a needs to. I believe his intention is to win elections in a country that voted for Donald Trump. Carville is the “it’s the economy, stupid” guy. To be honest, it might be enough he take the advice of his younger self. I think Trump ultimately won by harnessing feelings of economic uncertainty. You can communicate that in different ways. Biden does it well.
