I grew up on The Point and could sing Me and My Arrow without having heard the song for a decade or more. I didn't listen to any of his other stuff until about 15 years ago. I worked at a bar with a record player and one of the other employees brought Knnillssonn. I was totally hooked at the first song.

Not long after a DJ I am a a fan of started dropping Jump Into the Fire into his set.

The same guy who played KKNNILLSSONN for me was a musician who always had musician friends coming by the bar. We had Harry on and one of the guys said he had a Nilsson story for us. The guy's band had an overnight studio session booked and they were having a good time knocking out some tracks. Their engineer was friends with Harry and Harry stopped by to say hello ending up hanging out all night. So at the end of the session every one just books but this guy and Harry end up standing around having a chat. Harry asks if the guy wants to smoke a joint and they climb into Harry's car. They smoke the joint and Harry asks if the guy wants to hear something. They listen to both sides of a cassette tape of unreleased Harry Nilsson music. Harry asks if he liked it, the guy said he thought it was great and they call it a night.

I always thought that was a great story.

It’s an awesome story. I don’t think it would matter how successful of a songwriter you become, there is nothing like sharing new tracks, via car speakers with someone. It’s so nice to be able to share what you create. I bet Harry loved that.

Is the album your friend recorded at that studio available for listen?
