Wrote my first entire song. This was for the first week of Andrew Huang's songwriting course on Monthly.com.
The vocalist is my friend Helen Roundhill.... musical actress extraordinaire.
Thank you! I originally had the vocals higher up in the mix, but I dropped them back down into the range of the main Wurlitzer part, so the two would kind of sit together equally. Then, during the French section, I pumped her up and removed the reverb, so it's like she comes up close and whispers in your ear in French... zowie! I'm curious to see what I do with this track in, say, a year. Once I'm more agile with my production tools - and the keyboard - I'd like to fix a couple of things, and do a full remix of the song. Then I can A/B compare the original version against a new, more skillfully mixed, version. We'll see if I actually make that happen! :-)
That synth was a hail mary... I needed something that didn't occupy the same sonic midrange where everything else seems to sit, so I went for something abrasive and "out there". I think it worked! And if you are an Instagram kind of person, Helen is worth following. She's a riot and a creative force of nature with a deep and abiding love for Puckishness: https://www.instagram.com/heroundhill/
