I toured Pompei with an archaeologist. It was one of the coolest private tours I have had. Unfortunately, we were traveling with another family that didn’t really care that much about the history etc. The plaster casts of the victims bodies are remarkable and stirring. The homes they lived in were amazing too and their aqueducts, technology etc. I learned that the romans mandated a road be a certain width for carriages. To this day, we are impacted by this. Roads are the same. Even the space shuttles are impacted because they have to be designed in a way that can transport them on roads. It was a really fun day. Italy is an amazing place. I highly recommend going to Sorrento, Capri and Pompei.
... or maybe October 17th, apparently. I was led to this article by having the thought, "I wonder what day the Pompeiians would have called it?"
