One of the most gorgeously mastered albums of all time, Macy Gray's "On What Life is", has been in my car CD player for the last week, and I've been listening to it, in its entirety, every time I get in the car. On CD, with headphones, this album gives me chills... the audio is so perfect... Sadly, YouTube's compression completely destroys the beautiful textures of the song, but you get an idea of the presence, the feel, the intensity of the music. My recommendation this week is to put your headphones on and listen to Macy Gray's "On What Life Is" album, in its entirety. It's gorgeous.
Justin Townes Earle died today. His music was one of my gateways into country music. First song of his I ever heard was a live version of "One More Night in Brooklyn" live for some concert on NPR. Second song of his I ever heard was "Harlem River Blues" and I just kind of fell in love. It's gonna suck knowing he's not around.
rezzeJ, I dig the music you share. I really like "Oak -Firebird." You seem to have a preference for instrumentals. Do you ever listen to songs with lyrics/vocals?
I'm glad you enjoy the selections! I do have a penchant for instrumental music. It's so easy to write cheesy lyrics and they always ruin an otherwise a good track for me. Math rock and prog are big offenders. Having said that, some of my favourite music has vocals. Here's some off of the top of my head. Moses Sumney - Doomed R.A.P. Ferreira - Leaving Hell
Oh snap! I’m excited to listen. I have some manual labor in my yard this coming weekend and I’ll dig in. Regarding lyrics, I’ve definitely been guilty of ruining a good piece of music with vocals. But I’ve also taken meh music and made it better. I love lyrics. I have a hard time with just instrumentals.
