Being for the benefit of Mr. Kite was absolute torture to listen to... so lacklustre and annoying. Until Eddie Izzard completely reimagined it and made it .... SING! But the best song? I really have no idea... I like their 'story' songs the best, Eleanor Rigby, and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band both come immediately to mind, as ones that are shining examples of those, but they have a number of them, and I love the stories they tell... Maybe that's why I like Izzard's "Mr Kite" version so much. It's got to much more verve and story to it...
I’m for “We Can Work It Out”. Their best song? I can’t emphatically say it’s the best, but I like the simplicity of the lyrics, message, and tune. Nothing superfluous. Sorry Ringo, but if I hear “Yellow Submarine” again, it’ll be too soon. It’s like an infectious commercial jingle. I don’t like it, but on hearing it, I’ll find myself humming or running the tune or lyrics through my head at an almost subconscious level. Blah.
