Juggling. Used to do it all the time 25-30 years ago. Went semi-pro even. Circus. Could go 5 minutes with 5 balls and throw in a bunch of tricks. Records: 80 throws with 6 balls, 21 throws with 7. Now I juggle about 3 times a year, only when I'm asked to do something in a local show, or occasionally a math of juggling talk. Today my main hobbies are guitar and puzzle making. Bit of poetry and writing.
I used to crochet about 20 years ago. I still have some scarves. I miss gaming. I created the Wayfarers rpg in 2008, and released a second edition in 2012. The second edition was distributed by Mongoose Publishing, who never paid me. In free time I used to work on the third and final edition. I'll finish it someday, but I don't have that kind of time atm. I want to start gaming again too. There isn't anything like a good tabletop rpg session.
I didn't think I could think any better of you, but here we are. Knowing only 5e and a bit of Call of Chtuhlu: what do you think of 'regular' D&D? Design-wise, what were you going for with yours? I created the Wayfarers rpg in 2008, and released a second edition in 2012.
Aw shucks. Wayfarers originated from a skill system derivation of 1E and 2E that our group played for about 12 years across several campaigns. Most feedback is that it has the spirit of 2E but the flexibility of a skill system. The first edition of Wayfarers was a bit too tight in terms of variance, and it’s a total pc killer. It also has a couple oddities that were simplified in the second print. One of my favorite mechanics is proficiency checks. They are graded I to IV, and You roll 1d20 for each grade you have and keep the highest roll. Non-proficient checks roll 2d20 and keep the lowest. Keeping the 1-20 range reduces target number creep and bonus bloat. I’ll send you PDFs. If anyone else wants them, let me know. All that said, this is my magnum opus:
When I woke up at 5am to prepare my shool work in middle shool, I usually ended up writing a rpg . It was mostly a medieval plagiarism of Bushido a rpg I was loving, but never managed to find players for it. I'm pretty impress, because I'm sure I read about Wayfarers before
Speaking of gaming, I've taken up Zork thanks to the 404 page on hubski...
I used to be really crazy about knitting for about 5-6 years in high school and right after. I loved knitting and watching TV. I got into spinning and dying my own yarn at that time as well. After the great disruptions that came to my life with college I just pretty much totally stopped. Occasionally I make a scarf. I don’t enjoy hobbies that require quite so much time investment or require quite so much sitting down. I guess now I do other art-things. I would say that through my life it’s always accurate that I have some kind of creative hobby, I just swap types every now and again.
To procratinate from studying for my exam in 2nd year of university, I teach myself knitting. Since my mom had a knitting set. I knit 1 blue scarf, and 2 or 3 red wool thong for my gf. I praise myself to be the only one thinking of knitting thong ever... I wish to no one to wear them
I used to build balsa wood and tissue paper planes. Both free-flight, and R/C gliders with 2-meter wingspans. From this: To this: I have replaced that hobby with motorcycles, I think. It's more gratifying to ride the final product, than to watch it crash when an errant radio signal causes you to lose control... :-)
Maybe pick it back up? Find some people to collab with and make something awesome. An artist for the graphics, someone for the sound, a writer, etc. Just don't do sketchy shit like this. Seriously, you're too smart and passionate to be wasting your time and talents.Fuck I wish I had other people that shared my passion for coding when I was a kid. I was the only one.
I hacked Club Penguin.
U used to love riding my bike. I would think of any excuse to just go on my bike. Vacations. The shop. Everywhere. And if I couldn't write my bike. I cleaned and fixed it up. Today, I am a programmer. It is my work and my hobby. I love it. But I do miss the thrill of flying down a road with my bike. I should get myself a bike...
