I know only a few titles from this list, so if there are a few on there that you guys think are worth reading I'd love to know.
I read The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood . It's like Godel, Escher and Bach in that information theory is something that it's easy for a math geek to get mystical about, and like Godel, Escher and Bach in that it's like listening to someone describe their first acid trip to you at great, tedious length.
Okay, that was accurate but glib. Of their 50 I have - not heard of 13 of them - been recommended maybe 18 of them - have been meaning to read two of them - have read 3 of them I would characterize this as a list of books that people who haven't read recommend to other people to read so that you can look like the sort of person who has read lots of books that people talk about. Somewhere on here there's a list of most-recommended, least-read books compiled by comparing Amazon sales with the density of their Kindle highlights. Sam Quinones' Dreamland is totally worth reading. George Packer's The Unwinding is totally worth reading. A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius is annoying AF. It's a season of The Real World framed as capital-L Literature. I worked with Toph eggers. He's aaight. But Staggering Genius was so fucking annoying that I have a hard time enjoying McSweeny's.
Haven't read anything on your list but Between the World and Me, so I can't speak on those books, but I will definitely second that nomination. From the posted list, I have: read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (would recommend - I think of Henrietta occasionally to this day); Lab Girl and The Sixth Extinction have been on my to-read list; I have not heard of any of these other books but a few of them look like they might be relevant to my interests.
Evicted is worth reading. Capital is... I mean, it's a 700pp powerpoint but what it lays out is certainly a useful framework for understanding money as it most probably is, as opposed to money as it's been demonstrated. I haven't read the rest of his list but 2/7 are totally worth the time.
