So this one time at Burning Man (oh god, I guess I really am that person now) we showed up to this almost empty bar bar and got talking with the bartender. She made us some really complicated tasty badass cocktail, we were having a good time talking and then at some point mentioned she's trained in the Japanese dancing style Butoh. That she actually stopped because it got too emotionally draining to perform as it is a dance about death and suffering, invented in the aftermath of WWII. That it would take her hours to recover emotionally after every show. When I mentioned I've never seen a performance and was having trouble imagining what she was describing, she was generous enough to do a mini-demonstration for about 2-3 minutes. About a meter away from our group of 3. It was like time froze. From my memory all she did was raise her hand in front of her face and stare at it. But it was sad, emotional, horrifying and jarring. I was mind blown. And then I forgot all about this interaction until today. So I looked up some videos and got mind blown all over again.
Just felt like sharing this art form I didn't know existed until some weeks ago. I think it's pretty neat, but probably too dark to post on facebook.
