I just saw a job ad for an "Elections Outreach Worker" in my town in southern Ontario. The job responsibilites include
• Make presentations to the administrators and occupants of the shelters and organizations offering services to the homeless to raise awareness about where, when and ways to register and vote
• Identify special requirements in offering outreach for electors who are homeless and advise the Returning Officer
• Assist the RO, the training officer and the recruitment officer in selecting, appointing and training poll officials
• Distribute Elections Canada informational material
• Lead forums and seminars, or make presentations, about where, when and ways to register and vote
They also have jobs posted for Community Relations Officers for many disadvantaged groups. The poster says:
CROs are appointed in electoral districts where electors in certain target groups known to face barriers to registering and voting represent a significant portion of the population. The CRO facilitates communication between the local Elections Canada office and the target group, thereby making voting as accessible as possible to that population.
The available CRO positions are:
• CRO–Indigenous
• CRO–Official Languages/Ethnocultural
• CRO–Seniors
• CRO–Youth (including CROs for External Service Points)
• CRO–Homeless
• CRO–Accessibility
Does anything like this exist in the USA? I'm curious.
