Last year, Forever Labs was fortunate to have Inc. Magazine write a really nice piece on our company. It was written by Jeff Bercovici. We have been fortunate to have a lot of press but it's not always very well written. Jeff's piece was well written. "leafy Orinda," is my favorite. Why? Because with one adjective, a simple one at that, he completely captures what Orinda is like. It's simple, it's pretty, it's accurate. Thus sums up his writing.

Anyways, Forever Labs got the chance to host a panel at SXSW this year. We asked Jeff to moderate it. While in Austin we had drinks with Jeff and I got to talking with him about things outside of work. Turns out he has a good friend named Zach that lives in Ann Arbor. Apparently Zach is a really prolific musician/writer that throws this amazing party called the "Fort party." Wherein he turns his entire home in to a "fort." The kind you made as a kid with sheets, pillows etc. Whole rooms covered in sheets/pillows. It's epic.

I tell Jeff to "set me up with Zach." Jeff makes an email intro and Zach suggests we get together and play board games. We coordinate times and his entire family comes over to my home for a blind date.

It was a bit awkward at first, but within minutes we begin talking about music and all awkwardness abates. He and his wife are artists and prolific ones at that. If you've been following me on Hubski for some time, you'll note that I pride myself in prolifically making things. Songs, albums, podcasts, meet-hubski's, companies etc. I like to make things. Zach and his wife Lauren are likewise. In short, they were well met.

Zach has a website set up to share his music. He has been recording a song a month since 1993. His music is very well arranged, he has a great voice as does Lauren. Lauren was quick to declare, "I have a better voice." lol. I don't know, I think they're both great. Lyrically, it's clever and funny/punny stuff. Reminds me of They Might Be Giants with a dash of Andrew Bird lyricism in there. VISIT HIS SITE HERE

He's a very different kind of song writer than me, but I like it. He's able to incorporate his family in to the process. Pretty neat.

His site is worth digging in to. lil, I think you'd love it. steve you would too.

His site got me thinking that Hubski really serves the same function for me. I love sharing my music with people with adjoining commentary, etc. I love you guys, Hubski. Thank you.

So, it was a good first date. His family is amazing. Lauren runs a theatre group, has a great voice and was a lot of fun to talk with. They're well travelled. Their kids are well behaved, thoughtful and smart. Meanwhile, my son nearly broke their son's toe with a violent slap from a toy car's remote control cable. Oh... Atticus. My kids nearly blew the blind date. But I think we will see each other again. It's nice to make new friends that bring art and music to the table.
