I used to frequent a weekly bar quiz with friends in Phnom Penh. I was our "geography" guy, and the only Canadian.

Well, one week the question was: Where are the HQ for the Royal Canadian Mint? I'd been to the museum on Ottawa, but thought "No, that would be too easy an answer. It must be Winnipeg" (which is where they manufacture much of the currency). Wrongo.

The next week the question was "Mount Thor is the highest vertical drop in the world. Where is it located?" "Um... Norway?"

I ceased being the "geography guy" on our team that night.

I have to ask, how is Phnom Penh?

Haha... makes Bangkok look like Fort Lauderdale.

Nah, it's ok. You get a lot of characters, but outside the tourist areas the Cambodians are wonderful people, the expats are from all corners of the world and are there's nowhere better to hear a barstool story... the film "City of Ghosts" gives the most accurate portrayal I've seen, highly recommended.

I'll watch it. Matt Dillon is pretty great.

Expat culture is really a thing unto itself. You can find some of the most interesting, and some of the most disturbing people in those groups. :) It's hard to find a mix of people with such variation across all dimensions, age, personality, background, etc.
