I love this song.
Sam Cooke is the greatest singer of his generation. I'll fight anyone who says different. My favorite album is "Live at the Harlem Square Club". It's super loose and fun. Listen to his live albums, there is a big difference between those recorded in front of White and Black audiences. Sam was one of the early masters of marketing his music to different ethnicities. He also formed his own label and studio, owned his master's and maintained his rights over his catalog. One of the first blacks not to get raped by the system. Brilliant guy all around. Thank you! We had a little kitchen dance party to this version tonight. Appreciate it.
Listen to that whole album, it's just the best thing. He does this little cover of "Darling You Send Me" in front of "Bing it Back Home To Me" that is one of my favorite moments on any live album. I've played it about thousand times. It'd be on my list of favorite things. There's a fantastic version of Chain Gang.
