Jared Diamond touches on this in Collapse, in which he discusses the guilt heaped upon the feet of the survivors on Easter Island. On the one hand, they're considered the only tribe that ravaged their island to the point of societal collapse. But on the other hand, there were four or five other islands that left no survivors.You can see it just in the way that Auschwitz was always the central symbol of the Holocaust. Only in recent years is this being reversed as more details of Operation Reinhard come to light. This is partly because there were very few survivors of the Reinhard death camps to leave us with details. All who entered were murdered.
