- This brings us to conservatives’ favorite method of protest: filming themselves destroying consumer products they already paid for to stick it to companies who try to expand their target demographic beyond “white people 55 and older who have brain lesions.” In honor of the latest iteration of this tactic, which has elderly racists torching their Nikes and inhaling synthetic polymer fumes in order to spite an advertisement featuring former San Francisco 49er and National Anthem-kneeler Colin Kaepernick, let us explore the storied history of this very smart and very effective method of civil disobedience — and what little it hath wrought.
The Disco Demolition one is a little off base. The DJ who staged it lost his job when the station he worked for changed formats. He got hired at a different rock station in Chicago and started the disco sucks thing. It was not a political protest, it was a bunch of drunk kids being led by a shock jock in faux military gear, one of which was my step dad according to him. Also disco sucks. Say what you will about how cool A disco is then realize you only are aware of the GOOD disco music at this point unless you lived through it I was unaware of the cereal thing. Putting lots of oats in your plumbing is a pretty questionable idea so I hope some of those people self owned on that one
This narrative where they do things just to "offend liberals" is… interesting, especially considering that I seriously doubt anyone was actually offended by conservatives destroying their own property. I wonder if this is a US thing, or is it more widespread (due to how fast cultural trends / memes tend to spread now)? Personally I haven't seen this where I live, but that doesn't say muchLiberals are offended by this video of a Keurig being thrown off of a building.
Please retweet to offend a Liberal
On the one hand, it's admirably consistent. The American right freaks out about broken windows at protests, and they only destroy their own property in protest. It's weird, but it's consistent. On the other hand, the American right has a habit of killing people instead.
