The final time I visited my grandmother in hospice, I could also only muster enough to just say thank you (through lots of tears). I think that is a really fitting way to say good bye. How else can you honor someone than by telling them that you owe them a debt of gratitude? There are a lot of people you love who do not rise to that level. I think a heartfelt thank you at the end of someone's life means everything.
