Am i the only person who finds this a bit odd?

a particle that was consistent with the Higgs boson"
--- So still not actual science?
has passed a key step towards becoming ratified science
--- It either is or it isn't probably isn't good enough.
but as the Standard Model of particle physics only has one undiscovered particle remaining, it probably is the Higgs boson

When working on a scale of things you will never ever able to detect with your own senses, you have to be comfortable with the fact there there will never be a 100% chance that what you think is there is actually a Higgs Boson.
