A Black friend is reading the Bell Curve right now. Very bright guy. He's an accountant who writes a lot of poetry and has written a few strange ass plays. He's grew up in a Chicago housing project and now works on some of the biggest private development projects in the city. Rabid liberitatian but I I'm still fond of him. Any way he's a man who has a broad perspective on life and his summery of the Bell Curve is that it seems plausable and well thought out. He admits to knowing little about genetics. I thought it interesting that he took it that way with all the fury I've heard over that book. It's a strange day when Francis is reading The Bell Curve and my friend Paul is reading Mein Kamph both sitting across from each other on the shop couches, everyone feeling very safe to engage in some real talk. I'm probably on some kind of list, better the FBI than the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The book's called Mein Kampf. It's the "p" with "f" that makes it confusing to someone who doesn't speak German, where "pf" is common.Mein Kamph
Me: "Huh, this is an interesting topic that I have strong feelings about and some amount of experience. I have yet to really read a reasonable and diligent take on besides criticism of Charles Murray-esque work. I'm far-left leaning but in no way a science denier so maybe I can get through this and give it some more thought" A bit brusque, and the author is probably conservative but whatever. The fuck. ??? by Andrew Sullivan GODDAMMIT[liberals believe] All differences between men and women are a function of this social effect; as are all differences between the races.
Rightists believe that human nature is utterly unchanging; conservatives tend to see the world as less plastic than liberals, and attempts to remake it wholesale dangerous and often counterproductive.
I want to note first that I know many of the figures involved in this heated debate — most recently, Charles Murray, Sam Harris, and Ezra Klein — and respect each of them a great deal.
This kind of reminds me of the whole men are biologically stronger than woman thing. In my head men are capable of being stronger than women but that doesn’t mean junior who’s never been to the gym is stronger than girls who actually lift. It’s just going to be easier for junior when he decides to stop being a lazy piece of shit which is the annoying part. Does a lower IQ really mean you’re doomed to not be as smart as others with a higher IQ ? I figure it just means they have it easier. I agree that talking about it gives us the chance to better control the narrative.
