Quite popular, apparently. 😢
I tried the recipe. I halved it, and also left out the jalepenos and cilantro, which my wife can't stand, and added some "Za'atar Mix" I found at the grocery store, which is mostly sumac and sesame seeds, with some other unspecified spices. So my recipe was 1/2 lb chick peas, 1/2 onion, 1 largeish clove of garlic, between a 1/2 and a full teaspoon each of ground corriander and za'atar mix, and salt to taste. My blender does really poor job pretending to be a food processor, so I gave up and switched to a potato masher, which didn't work great either. My dough was pretty chunky, and I blame that for the some of the problems I had. Also I didn't have enough flour at the start. And also I didn't get the oil temp right until halfway through. The first half either fell apart or burned. The last 10 were pretty good. Unfortunately I took a picture of the middle third and not the good ones at the end.
They're like pancakes: the first ones come out weird but towards the end you've got your groove on. I rage quit the first time I tried to make falafel in a blender. Threw the entire thing in the freezer and gave it another shot a different day. You'd think it'd work out fine... you'd think that.
