In my experience, Android tampered with is Android fouled. I think Amazon should be more focussed on integrating with the already existing Android population through standalone software packages.

Agreed, the more tailored the android experience is (ie. the more irremovable crap-ware you have on your device) the less functional it is at doing what you want it too with android.

I'd like to buy a tablet, but I hate when companies try to predetermine how I will use my device. I have an android phone with a whole universe of preloaded hard to remove junk on it. When I turn my phone on it's so busy checking the weather, Facebook, e-mail, determining my location ect, that I can't send a text any faster than a letter every 2 seconds for more than a minute.

Every week I swear that I'll root my phone but I still haven't. I guess I need to stop being an old man and apply my previous computer mucking about skills to the new world of devices. The fact that they aren't going to allow Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich on the new device is pretty unappealing.

How exactly? I don't really have an Android device yet. I've read a lot about the fragmentation issues though those things are rather abstract for me.

Well, you get non-standard behaviour and modified functionality which - to me - is the incorrect approach in consumer electronics where people hop around a lot and contexts can vary greatly.
