I don't think so. Iraq was a pariah state whose principle contribution to geopolitics had been violating sanctions for ten years. Iran has been cooperating with monitors, is participating in operations with Russia and Turkey and whose soft power network is second to none in the Middle East. Iraq became Iraq because Hussein didn't correctly read the trade winds about invading Kuwait. Iran is Iran because they've been outreading us and outplaying us in the Middle East since 1977. I mean yeah ZOMG someone is calling for regime change in Iran - like the entire western world hasn't been doing that since the Ayatollah swept in. Yeah history rhymes but an oil-rich military dictatorship under sanction for 12 years isn't the same as a complex theocracy just coming out from under them, even if they are both full of brown people who speak funny languages.
And if we want to be technically accurate, the Persians are Caucasians, aka whitey. Farsi is a part of the Indo-European branch of the common tongue. Farsi is almost a mash of Turkish and Hindi in the way that English is a bastardization of German. Want to piss off a guy speaking Hebrew? Ask him if he is speaking Farsi. To me they sound very similar and I learned to not compare the two in certain company.even if they are both full of brown people who speak funny languages.
This op-ed was a little emotionally written but it gave me enough of a sinking feeling to start doing some research, since I'm sitting in an intro to environmental geography class (nicknamed "Dirt" at my school) and I don't give a fuck about warm fronts. Here is a quick google-sourced and not-very-deep dive on this stuff for anyone interested, in order of credibility. http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/12/14/nikki-haley-yemen-houthi-rebels-iran-missiles-press-conference-pentagon-skepticism-united-nations-trump-nuclear-deal-diplomacy/ http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/10/11/trump-is-inching-toward-war-with-irans-revolutionary-guards/ https://www.cato.org/blog/trump-administration-preventive-war https://www.vox.com/world/2017/11/29/16707804/trump-iran-war-nuclear-deal-saudi-arabia edit: If any armchair experts have some reliable guidance on reading on this topic comment yo links!
