It's amazing that something like a 1 cm difference in how far apart your eyes are can change your entire life experience. Though it's something I try to fight in myself, it's true that we treat people differently based on looks. Pretty people get smiled at, get gifts, others compete for their attention; normal people are treated with indifference and are overlooked; ugly people are avoided. There's nothing fair about it, and not much we can do about it. I feel happy and lucky my own children are good looking, I know their lives will be better for it.

Tough subject.

It's not all easy for good-looking people, either, which is the ridiculous thing. My niece (21 and pretty) discovered while travelling through a foreign country that she was stared at by men wherever she and her mother went. They both felt very uncomfortable whenever they were in a public place.

Maybe there are things we can do about this sort of prejudice. Even if part of it is biological (e.g. maybe we subconsciously prefer features that indicate better health or something?), there's clearly a lot which is cultural, and that part is changeable.
